Mr. Jacob Kumwenda appointmented as Managing Director of Chithumba Limited.
We are delighted to announce Mr. Jacob Kumwenda's appointment as Managing Director of Chithumba Limited.
Jacob has been working with ACE as a Programme Coordinator since 2014. With more than a decade-long experience in the agribusiness sector, Jacob brings his expertise to drive Chithumba’s transition to a for-profit entity.
Chithumba Limited, formerly Chithumba, is in the process of transforming from a project to a full-time limited corporation. Registered in 2021, it started offering for-profit activities in the late 2022-23 agricultural season. Chithumba offers bundled services, including:
- Pre-harvest finance for farm inputs, particularly soya and groundnut seeds, agricultural extension services, and marketing assistance to farmers;
- “Market Maker” whereby Chithumba links farmers to buyers;
- Transport services.
As Chithumba is kick-starting its first season as a limited company, Jacob commented: “I am thrilled to be part of this new journey of Chithumba. It’s been great to see it evolve over the years, from solely providing pre-harvest finance to expanding to other services, always striving to improve smallholder farmers’ livelihoods. Now that we’re moving towards for-profit operations, I look forward to incorporating other activities to make Chithumba a pioneer in sustainable farming and agricultural markets in Malawi”.
